Skype for Business, previously called Lync, caches files locally on a PC or Mac to pull information quickly and efficiently.
However, sometimes this information can get corrupted, and there are times where it is necessary or helpful to delete those files and force Skype for Business to get a new set from the server.

Common reasons you will want to clear your cache include:

How to fix Skype for Business or Lync for Windows

  1. Log out of Skype for Business or Lync (the images below are from Lync 2013, but the same steps apply).
  2. Click Delete my sign-in info:
  3. Exit the Skype for Business client
  4. Click Start. Go to Computer. In the address bar, copy and paste one of the following locations (depending on the version of Office installed)
    1. Office 2013 - %AppData%.LocalMicrosoftOffice15.0Lync
    2. Office 2016 - %AppData%.LocalMicrosoftOffice16.0LyncNote: Both Lync and Skype for Business folders are named 'Lync' in the file explorer.
  5. Delete your sip profile folder.
    Note: The sip profile folder will have your sip information as the name, so it should look like 'sip_[username]@liberty.edu'
  6. Go into the Tracing folder
  7. Delete the all files, but not the folders
  8. Close the window
  9. Click on Start, then type CMD and press Enter.
  10. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter
  11. Close or exit out of the Command Prompt
  12. Re-open Skype for Business, and everything should be working properly again.
