How to remove 'Zxcvc' from Mac?

What is 'Zxcvc'?

Zxcvc is a family of scam sites, designed to endorse untrustworthy applications. This variant promotes the Smart Mac Booster. It operates by warning users of a virus it has allegedly detected and offers said software for its removal. Users should note that no website can find threats/issues present on their devices; all such claims are fake and must not be trusted. Any apps deceptive webpages advertise are highly likely to be fraudulent and nonfunctional; therefore, strongly advised against installation. Most visitors to Zxcvc access these pages unintentionally, they get redirected by PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications), already present on their Mac Operating Systems.

The first thing visitors to Zxcvc see is a pop-up window. The message within it claims that a website they have visited on this day has infected their MacOS with a virus. Users are encouraged to press 'OK' to initiate the repair process. After this window is closed, Zxcvc shows a different page. It repeats the initial claim and pushes visitors to do a full system scan, in order to locate and eliminate harmful files/applications. To further the impression of legitimacy, this site also lists device details - brand, OS version, browser, IP address, Internet provider and location. Following Zxcvc instructions starts a fake scan, which detects a virus called 'Bankworm'. Then Zxcvc recommends the Advanced Mac Cleaner application for removal of this threat. Once the 'REMOVE VIRUS NOW' button is clicked, users get redirected to the promotional webpage of Smart Mac Booster. Downloading it results in the download of the maccleaner.pkg file, which is typically used to proliferate PUAs. There are many untrustworthy and fraudulent apps similar to (and similarly spread as) Smart Mac Booster; for example, MacCleansePro, K9-MacOptimizer, Qbit Mac Optimizer and many others. Such software usually requires activation to become operational, however even after being purchased - they tend to remain nonoperational. Both maccleaner.pkg and Smart Mac Booster are expressly advised against installation.

PUAs share many similarities in-between; they appear legitimate and tempt users into downloading/installing them with offers of various 'useful' features. Regardless how good these promises sound, the advertised functions are rarely operational (even after activation). The only purpose of unwanted apps is to generate revenue for their developers; to users they are useless. PUAs are designed to force-open sale-based, untrustworthy, compromised, deceptive/scam and malicious webpages. They can also run intrusive advertisement campaigns; deliver ads that severely diminish the browsing quality and carry certain risks. Other types make unauthorized changes to browsers (hijack them) and promote fake search engines. Frequently, PUAs also possess data tracking abilities. By monitoring users' browsing habits (search engine and browsing histories) they collect personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and real-life personal details). This sensitive data is then shared with third parties and can end up being used for criminal purposes. To summarize, PUAs can cause browser and system infiltrations and infections, as well as lead to financial losses, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device and user safety - all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins are recommended for immediate removal.

Vnbue, Badmonday, Sundayfunny are a few examples of scam website families identical to Zxcvc. Deceptive sites usually employ scare-tactics to push visitors into downloading/installing and/or purchasing dubious software. In other words, these webpages display warnings/alerts/alarms of 'detected' threats and issues, then they offer applications for the removal of said problems. Nearly always, the promoted apps are fake and nonfunctional. Entrance to Zxcvc and similar pages commonly occurs through redirects generated by PUAs or intrusive advertisements.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

Some PUAs (like Smart Mac Booster) have official download websites. However, they can also be downloaded/installed alongside other software. This false marketing method of pre-packing regular content with unwanted apps is called 'bundling'. By rushing though download/installation setups (e.g. by ignoring terms, skipping steps, etc.) - users risk inadvertently allowing bundled software onto devices. Once clicked, intrusive advertisements can execute scripts to download/install PUAs, without user consent.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is encouraged to always research content, before downloading/installing it. Only official and verified download channels should be used. It is ill-advised to use P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule, etc.), free file-hosting sites, third party downloaders and similar sources - as they are deemed to be untrustworthy. Download/Installation process should be approached with caution. Therefore, users should read terms, explore all possible options, use the 'Custom/Advanced' settings and opt-out form supplementary apps, tools, functions, etc. Intrusive adverts rarely look suspicious, they often appear legitimate and harmless. However, these ads redirect to various questionable pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating and others). Should users encounter advertisements/redirects of this type, they are advised to inspect the system and remove all dubious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins without delay. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan withCombo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.

Microsoft has already ended all support for this package and wants you to switch.Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Lync have not been tested on macOS 10.13 High Sierra, and no formal support for this configuration will be provided. However, there are options, first:and of course friendlier alternatives like LibreOffice, complicated constructions including virtual machines and with Windows or macOS etc.All fair game and nice to play with. But then there is this dreadful word again: 'deadline'. 'Deadline' and 'upgrade' should be mutually exclusive concepts and not procrastinatory temptations.MS Office 2011 does not work on macOS 10.13 High Sierra, officially. Upgrade microsoft office 2011.

Nemty Ransomware Now Spread Via Botnet

Since the operators of GandCrab ceased operations, a void in the Malware-as-a-Service sector was left open. Since proving how effective it could be to rent out ransomware as well as partner up with other cybercriminal syndicates to improve distribution, for example, other malware authors have been left looking to follow the business plan developed by GandCrab. To a greater or lesser extent, many have looked to emulate the GandCrabs notion of Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS), to varying levels of success. One such scheme is currently been deployed by those behind the Nemty ransomware.First discovered by researchers in August, Nemty is new to the ransomware party currently dominated Ryuk and .STOP. This has not discouraged the malware authors, who even were quite heavily criticized on underground hacking forums. This did not discourage them it seems and the ransomware has gone through several changes and updated ver..
